Establishing Goals

Are you excited about 2010? I am. I’m excited to see what events will happen, the milestones Monkey will make and how all of this will inevitably impact and change our family.

I will tell you that I am not the girl that makes New Years Resolutions. For me I find that it just doesn’t set me up for success.

What works for me is setting goals. Sounds the same thing as a resolution? I don’t think so.

For me to be successful, I HAVE to establish goals. It also helps for me to write them down where I can see them everyday. I keep mine in my closet so I can see it everyday but it is not on display for the whole world to see. This is how I make my goals:

1.Identify the goal.

2. Establish a plan on how you will achieve the goal. Be realistic!

  • How long will it take?
  • What materials do you need to achieve this goal?
  • What are the steps involved?
3. Execute the plan.
4. Access.
  • Did you achieve your goal?
  • How can you maintain the results?
  • If you need to rethink a more successful approach this is the time to do it! What changes can be made to your plan to help you be successful?

I found an awesome printable on Living Locurto! Look at this free printable:

I have never had something so pretty to keep me on track but this will definitely work! I love how everything is so organized and pretty!! It’s all laid out for you so you don’t even have to think about it!

  1. G'morn, my friend ~ This is a whole new approach & sounds good to me ... the format would be much easier than a scrap of paper, that i would LOOSE!, for sure.

    Have a beautiful day.

  2. Alright my first goal will be to establish goals (the right way) -- I think this could work.

  3. I often think about the ancestors of the people I am doing family trees for. The way they lived their lives. They had few goals that were personal but several that were necessary.
Their main goals were to get enough food planted and animals raised to survive another year.
I don't think they had the time or energy to concern themselves with the sorts of resolutions we make or the goals we set.
Maybe if we think about what a privilege it is to be able to set these goals we wouldn't fight them so much or give up on them so easily.
That being said if I don't the rest of the cookies and chocolates out of the house pronto I will never reach my goals.

  4. Thanks for sharing the printable goal list! I myself have set goals for this year and this seems like a fun and easy way to keep track.

  5. Oooh, I'm going to check this out.
My whole goal process hasn't worked.
I've just kept them in my head, and I think I need to SEE them.
    Thanks for sharing this.

    Happy New Year!

  6. I've got a brand new notebook just waiting for me to write down some of my goals for the year. I like to do goals rather than resolutions, too. I definitely need to write mine down ~ I do much better with things on paper.

  7. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. :) I am notorious for not following through with things which is why I have not done a resolution. I think I will eventually sit down and make some goals though. Thanks for the reminder. :)

  8. I'm with ya! Goals are so much better than resolutions (that leave me feeling defeated).
