One thing I haven’t shared with you about my sister is her love of Cookie Monster. This love goes back so far that I can’t remember when she DIDN’T love Cookie Monster.
{The first two pictures are from her 2 birthday in 1982. My mom made a Cookie Monster cake and everything. Fast forward to 2008 and she is showing Monkey her Cookie Monster shirt.}
In October I was on the computer and I stumbled upon this blog, Cake Wrecks. This blog “highlights” professional cakes “gone wrong.”If you have not seen this site, it is huuuhhh-larrrrrrioussssssss!

{Yes. These are all “professional” cakes featured by Cake Wrecks. The last one was my inspiration.}
A few years ago my mom gave me her 1981 Wilton cake pan for Cookie Monster.
Was this an option? Yeah.Right. I’ll give you 2 reasons this would NOT work out for me: 1. I’m the messiest person ever.
2. My Multiple Sclerosis doesn’t help. My fingers don’t work right and I don’t have the strength in my hands and arms like I used to.
I didn’t lose hope. I came up with a plan that even I couldn’t mess up.Cookie
Monster
Cupcakes.
BBD was even excited and wanted to help. I didn’t have a clue how to start. I have never piped anything before! We needed a starting point so we printed off the directions for the 1981 Wilton cake to find out how to make the icing and how to make the fur.Went to Hobby Lobby and got the tools:
Since I can’t be in the kitchen with the oven on, BBD made the cupcakes the night before using a Duncan Hines mix.
I read the directions. Concentrated really hard and proceeded to follow the directions…didn’t I?
Isn’t he sweet for cleaning up the boo-boo so we can use the sugar the recipe really calls for? What a sweetie…sadly enough he’s used to my “happenings.”
{Look at that focus.}
Unfortunately, I didn’t get pictures of the “middle steps” because Monkey woke up. BBD did take over and piped the fur because of the two reasons mentioned earlier.
1.We iced the cupcakes as you would any cupcake. I tried the dip and twirl method but it didn’t work as effectively as it would have with a tub of store-bought icing.
{Amazon}
2. Cut the cookies in half. Put them on the cupcake where Cookie Monster’s mouth would be.
3. Using #233 tip, pipe fur on the cupcake to make it look like Cookie Monster.
4. For the eyes I cut the large marshmallows in half and then on the sticky part of the marshmallow I put a chocolate chip.
I wanted something fun to display her cupcakes. These were just too cute and took way too much effort for just an ordinary cupcake stand! Look what I found…
Amanda at Imperfectly Beautiful made this tower out of Christmas boxes! Isn’t it beautiful?
Well I did not have brown craft paper. Or a Cricut. Or cute ribbon.
All I had was a brown paper bag. Left over fabric. And chipboard letters.
As you can see, I didn’t have enough fabric and my paper is not perfect AT all so I decided to leave my edges shabby. I HAD to have bling so I added the scrapbook rhinestones and buttons.
