Turkey Day and Thrifting

I hope that you all had a great Thanksgiving! I am back and ready to blog. I have been a bad blog-buddy this past week and a half. I apologize. I can't wait to see what everybody has been up to! After working on our Christmas party since October, I was pretty worn out after the party. That's why you didn't see much going on over here.

We had a great Thanksgiving with our family over at Mom's house. Our festivities start on Wednesday as we begin to prepare the feast. BBD, Daddy and Mr. M fry the turkey every year so BBD always cuts the turkey on Wednedsay so it can marinate over night. Mrs. M and I have made the dressing since 2004. When I say "make" I really mean we follow a notebook we have used every year. You should see this notebook. It is color-coded for every year and any changes are documented on the recipe. Yes, there are always changes. Our mom is a wonderful cook and does not use a recipe for anything so the first year Mrs. M and I made the dressing we tallied every time she shook the pepper, anytime a clove of garlic was added etc. We always have so much fun making it. Dad usually pours the wine for us and Mom will sit at the island as we entertain  her and ask her questions regarding the dressing.

{Sorry for the quality of the pictures. These pics were taken Thanksgiving 2006 on an early digital camera.}
We posed for this picture: Notice Mrs. M and the wine and me as I try to decipher the recipe.

This year it was different and I have to admit...it wasn't the same. This is the first Thanksgiving that I have been affected by the heat the oven puts off and all the joys Multiple Sclerosis brings me. I really wanted to help but I didn't have the energy, physical strength or physical tolerance for the heat. I still had fun visiting with Mom, Dad and Mrs. M. Dad and I sat around the island and watched supported them as they cooked.

I do have to give Dad props. This is him whipping the tators.

On Friday afternoon BBD and I loaded the car and headed the two hour drive to Austin for his parents Thanksgiving. Monkey and I slept. Alot. The best thing that happened in Austin was this...

GOODWILL!!! I needed some fresh air so I left the in-laws, BBD and Monkey and headed over there! The black tray was really green. See- I get so excited that I don't take before pictures. This pic is the "between stage." I got it for Monkey's sock drawer. This will keep them organized. I got the mirror because I liked the shape. I have no idea where I will put it or how I will use it. Maybe a chalk board? What do you think I should do??

The big mirror is heavy! I don't know why I got this either! I am thinking about going to lowes and getting one of those wooden appliquaes and covering the opening on top with it.
I'd love to hear your suggestions! I'm all ears!

  1. I thought chalkboard, too, for that mirror, Norma Lee! I'll bet you could find something to cover that decorative cut out with, too. Nice to hear you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
