Decorating the Christmas Tree

I've said it once and I'll say it again...I. Love.Christmas. I do! I love everything about it. My husband and I have been known to decorate so early that we have to dust the tree. When I think about Christmas it just makes me happy. Our first year married, we were so excited to decorate for Christmas. I hoped that it would always be like that and it has. Today is our one year anniversary in our new house. Last year the decorating was minimal since I was still recovering from a broken back. So this year, I wanted it to be really nice and homey. The first thing I did was buy a new tree. We had used the same 6 foot tree every year but with our new 12' ceilings the size just wasn't right. I looked high and I looked low and I found the tree for me. It is a 10' skinny tree and it really looks like a pine tree.Of course in my typical fashion I did not take before pictures. I was so excited I skipped that part.

We put the Christmas tree in the foyer this year since we have a very active toddler who would love to get his hands on the tree. This is the foyer before the season...which happened to start in October this year.

This is the view when you are walking to the front door.

Lord of All, the reason for the season.

You know I love chandeliers...especially when they are on the Christmas tree.

There really isn't a whole lot on the tree. The Live Love Laugh sign was purchased months ago from Goodwill for $1 and it was unfinished. I just sprayed it gold and then sprayed it again with gold glitter spray. It turned out to be an inexpensive ornament to make!

I've had this star garland for years. This is the first year I put it on the tree. I found it in the pantry and I figured if Monkey got to it he wouldn't be able to do any "real damage."

I love this reindeer. I wish I had bought some brothers and sisters for him. He came from a huge warehouse downtown that sells everything from party supply to pet supplies. The S came from another Hobby Lobby sale. You can find those in the unfinished letter section. I just sprayed it gold and then sprayed it with the glitter spray. I had the supplies so the project cost me $1-2, I can't remember exactly what the price was but I do know it was cheaper than a pack of gum.

I decided this year to do something different instead of the big fabulous bows. To be quite honest, after attempting this myself, I had to ask Mom for help. With my MS I was getting so dizzy on the ladder and since we only have a 6ft. ladder I couldn't reach the top and my arms weren't strong enough to keep them at a ridiculous angle very long. My husband BBD, also thought I should get off the ladder. I guess he was afraid I would fall and with my bone disease, break all of my bones. Mom used all the gnarliest things I had from sticks, anything gold and BBD's pheasant feathers from his Kansas hunting trip.

Merry Christmas friends! I would love to hear how you are decorating your tree this year! Share with us...

  8. It looks beautiful, Norma Lee! I like the thinner trees myself {hubby likes the fuller rounder ones}. I think it looks great and I love your chandelier ornament! Great way to bring some of your finds up-to-date by spraying them. I have to find some of that glitter spray myself. Your Mom did a nice job, too; love the top part!
